Ben + Leibe :: Lifestyle

We've enjoyed getting to know Ben + Leibe a bit better the past year or two, since they've moved back to Iowa.  Ben grew up around here and both Jodi and I had the pleasure of being camp counselors with him a "few" summers ago. We'll also be getting to see a lot more of Leibe this year, as she will be Jackson's first grade teacher!  He is extremely excited to be in her class, and the way we see it, any child that gets the privilege of her classroom is a lucky kid!

O Christmas Tree! :: A Contest!

At the Gehman household, Christmas trees are one of our favorite holiday decorations. We have 3 large trees on display, and 5 small trees in various rooms of our house. I'm not sure why it is this way, but Christmas trees are cool, alright?

O Christmas Tree Contest!

I'm not sure how many years we've done this contest, but it's always fun to see other people's trees and how they've decorated them. So, we're bringing the Christmas Tree contest back to the blog... except, not. This year, we're moving the contest to Facebook! The contest, the rules, the photos are all on our Gehman Photography Facebook Page, so click the link and get those photos coming!

What you need to do is...

Here's the gist... Take a photo of your Christmas tree. It can be close up or full length, it can be your familiy tree, or the one at the office... or both! The quality of the photograph or photography is not important, although your tree will look better and probably get more votes if we can see it. :) Then, go to our Facebook page, and on the bottom left of the screen by the "Photos" box, you'll see a place where you can upload your photo to our Fan Photos album. Then, the rest of the fans will click on the "Like" button if they like your tree. Whoever gets the most "Likes" by Christmas Day wins....

Mandi + Jared :: Lifestyle

We like to trade stuff.

If you have driven past our house, or have been to us for a photo shoot in the past week or so, you may have noticed that our yard looks absolutely fabulous. The major reason that the yard looks so nice is because of Jared. He owns Kalonial Lawn Care, in Wellman Iowa, and we've been swapping lawn care for photos with them for a while now. He sprays for weeds, fertilizes, does Spring and Fall clean up for us, and even provides mulch and dirt when we need it. So, props to Mandi + Jared for our nice green lawn!

Some of the other services we've traded for in the past: baby-sitting, house-cleaning, meals, massage therapy and a pig. Yeah, you heard me... a pig. Not so much in the "alive" state, but more in the form of bacon, ham, etc.

Anyway, all that to say, Mandi + Jared are another couple rocking our new Lifestyle sessions! Lifestyle sessions are for 1) couples who have been married a few years, may or may not have kids, but either way, haven't had photos taken of just the two of them for a long time, or 2) single people who haven't had professional pictures since their senior photos.  These could be used for business cards, christmas cards, or just for fun.  All in all, it's a fashion photo shoot with some sort of theme or concept. Mandi + Jared enjoy riding motorcycle together, so we the first half of the session, we took them to a gravel road and did a sunset shoot with the cycle.

After that, they changed into a little more dressy clothes, and we hit Iowa City for some late night shots.

David + Christina :: Lifestyle

We're toying with a new session to offer here at Gehman Photography, and for now we're simply calling it "Lifestyle". Lifestyle shoots are intended for those of you who have been married for a few years, and haven't had professional pictures taken of just the two of you since the wedding. Sure, you might have some family pictures with your kids, but the Lifestyle Session is a great way to revisit the romance that is just the two of you. It would be a great session for an anniversary, or renewing wedding vows, or just for fun! In fact, if you're single and want to update your senior pictures from 1997.... here's your chance! Jodi and I had some Lifestyle images taken of us last year, and loved it, so now we're bringing it to you! Give us a shout if you're interested!

Last week, we had an opportunity to work with our graphic designer friends David and Christina for a Lifestyle session. Jodi ended up finding this cool yellow truck which seemed to be just sitting there waiting for us.
